Ramadan, the Islamic holy month during which Muslims fast while the sun is up, ends this weekend, and I almost missed writing about it! There were too many political distractions and long-term projects to resolve.
However, a last-minute adjustment to a planned article about interfaith meals made for a great Ramadan feature. I was able to link my coverage of a fast-breaking meal between Mormons and Muslims to a larger movement across the country encouraging sharing a table with your enemies.
Shared meals are a simple way to respond to disheartening social and cultural divides in America today. Maybe too simple. But I was inspired by the people I interviewed, who are becoming better people one new friendship at a time.
