Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are getting married! That may mean very little to many of you, but their engagement sparked some interesting faith-related buzz.

Markle, an American Protestant, will join the Church of England before her May wedding. Love has caused religious switching before, but it’s much less common for the bride’s future grandmother-in-law to be the ceremonial head of the new denomination. Markle will also have to consult with church leaders about her prior marriage, as the Church of England is hesitant to host second weddings.

I had a little too much fun researching the religious consequences of a royal wedding this week, as visions of my own upcoming nuptials danced in my head. Unfortunately, my soon-to-be husband doesn’t come with a royal title.
